Some of the hard questions in AR, and our quest to answer them

We’ve been hard at work developing the Niantic Real World Platform–what we refer to as an operating system for the world–and we’ve been heartened and humbled by how enthusiastic the reception has been thus far.

Still, as much detail as we provided about the work we’re doing to better model reality, understand reality, and share reality, there are countless other areas where we’re focused. Looking ahead, we’d like to give you more detail about those initiatives as well.

What are the kinds of new entertainment experiences we foresee and are envisioning? How does our current work foster advanced mobile networks and computing at the edge? How are our initiatives bolstered by scaled adaptive computing? If the Niantic Real World Platform functions in many ways like a global operating system for applications that unite the digital world with the physical world, how will that intersection impact people in their daily lives? And how will future generations of AR hardware impact those experiences?

We’ve got an amazing team tackling these questions and many more, and you’ll be hearing from them in the weeks and months ahead as we provide our thoughts here. We’ll also be publishing more of our academic papers and theoretical inroads on this site.
