Niantic’s Lightship Platform Team Sponsors AR House (LA) for March
Month-long collaboration themed “Building the Real-World Metaverse” includes on-site Lightship engineers providing hands-on tutorials, hosting community engagement events and the opportunity for in-house developers to showcase their best AR work using Lightship

The Niantic Lightship team is excited to be the first to sponsor AR House in Los Angeles. In March, the Lightship team and AR House will select a set of AR creators to live in the house for one month to build on the Lightship platform. Activities will include workshops, hands-on support, fireside chats and all of the real world social experiences that can happen when a bunch of creative people live and work together in the same house for one month!

In January, the AR House featured a focus on fashion including a first of its kind fashion show. For March, the focus will be on building the real-world metaverse.

In addition to the Lightship Augmented Reality Developer Kit (ARDK) tools currently available at Lightship.dev, AR House participants will also be able to try the private beta of the Lightship Visual Positioning System (VPS) scheduled to launch later this year.

Last November, we officially opened Lightship to third party developers, brands and creators outside of Niantic and so far we’ve seen incredible examples of what’s possible. We’ve also seen the growth of a robust community of creators and developers learning from one another in online forums and regular Zoom calls, but the AR House collaboration will present the first time for developers to get back together in person since the launch of Lightship in November.

“We’re thrilled to be partnering with AR House to host our Lightship developers in the month of March,” said Hali Hoyt, head of developer community at Niantic. “The AR house will give developers an opportunity to focus on their craft for an entire month and collaborate with like-minded individuals. We are excited to provide exclusive partner engineering support to the devs in the house, as well as private workshops. I can’t wait to get my hands on the developer demos at the end of the month!”

The team on site in AR House LA in March will include ten creators from the US and Europe, along with AR House founders Lucas Rizzotto and Aidan Wolf, and support engineers from the Lightship team, as well as special Niantic guests joining in-person throughout the month.

Many in-house events are scheduled for the March cohort, but there are also ways for the public to engage during fireside chats and a virtual build-a-thon, as well as a showcase demo day:
