At Niantic, our mission is to draw people outdoors, inspire exploration, encourage exercise, and create connection. Creating a safe environment is fundamental to fulfill this mission, and we are constantly working to ensure players have a safe and enjoyable experience.
We’re committed to fostering an environment that creates safe and enriching experiences in all our products. We do this by:
- Using safety by design principles early in the game development process to understand and mitigate risks people may face
- Setting clear policies and guidelines about what is and isn’t allowed across our games, communities, and social features.
- Providing tools and resources for people to control their experience and get help.
- Partnering with experts and trusted organizations to inform our approach to safety.
Our policies and guidelines form the foundation for what types of content, behavior, and actors are appropriate across our games and products. We’ve built our policies with a focus on promoting safety, reducing harm, and providing a fun and safe experience for all players. When we become aware of content or behavior that violates our Player Guidelines or policies, our Trust and Safety team works to ensure a proportionate response to the penalties for breaking our rules including warning, suspension, and account removal. Our policies and accompanying communications to help players understand our enforcement decisions will continue to evolve over time, and we are committed to revising and improving them.
In addition to our internal team of experts, we partner externally with non profits, coalitions, and select government agencies to craft policies and processes that support our safety mission. As we grow, we’re committed to expanding our partnerships as we work towards our goal of keeping the Niantic community safe.
