2021: What a year! In our new Niantic Recap 2021, we take a look back at a year of exploring the world together. We’re so inspired by the billions of kilometers walked, the millions of friendships made and all of the new Wayspots found for people to discover. Thank you to our community of Explorers, Lightship developers, industry partners and all of our Niantics for coming along with us on this journey.
2021 Niantic highlights:
Held our inaugural hybrid Pokémon GO Fest bringing back the in-person experience that makes this event so memorable. We hosted 47 meetups in over 30 cities and 20 states.
Furthered our investments in AR mapping, ad tech, platform tools, and community through five acquisitions.
Launched our first-ever Niantic brand film “Meet You Out There” bringing to life our mission.
Shipped new games – TRANSFORMERS: Heavy Metal (in soft launch) and Pikmin Bloom – that gave people new ways to connect and play together.
Opened up our Lightship platform to developers to enable a new wave of engaging real-world AR experiences.
