Trust & Safety Niantic Parent Guide
Welcome, Parents and Legal Guardians!

As you and your child embark on real-world adventures with Niantic games, this guide will provide you with the information you need to have a fun and safe experience while exploring.

At Niantic, your child’s safety and privacy is a top priority. We hope this guide answers your questions and puts your mind at ease as your child explores, exercises, and plays our games. We’ll cover the things that are most likely on top of your mind – like preventing in-app purchases, and sharing personal information.

Note that not all of our games are appropriate for children under the digital age of consent.* Currently, only some of our games are available for children with the use of a Niantic Kids account: Pokémon GO, Pikmin Bloom, and Peridot. See more information in the Our Games and their Ratings section below. While this guide focuses more heavily on the age group of 9-12 years, many of the tips and suggestions provided are applicable to children of all ages, including teenagers. Check out our Safety Center for more information on our approach to safety.

* This age varies by country or region. In most places, the age of digital consent is 13 years old. Please see our Privacy Policy for more details.

About Niantic

At Niantic, we create mobile games that make the world more magical through exploration, exercise, and real-world social interaction.

Built with Safety in Mind

Niantic’s games designed for kids to play are built with the interests of you, the parent or legal guardian, at heart. Here are a few ways we work to build and keep your trust.

Parental Controls Child accounts need a parent’s or legal guardian’s permission before playing the game, and to enable friending and other features.
Limited in-app interactions Child accounts do not have access to messaging others in the game.
Data privacy Niantic does not share or sell any adult’s or child’s user information to third parties.
Opt in for Sponsored content and No Ads Child accounts will not see ads and will only be able to interact with in-game sponsored content with a parent’s or legal guardian’s permission.
Our Games and their Ratings

Our games are meant to be fun when played individually or collaboratively. Each game has its own rating on the maturity level of content to help parents and legal guardians make informed decisions about what is appropriate for their children. This content rating system is maintained by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) and Pan European Game Information (PEGI). Common Sense Media also provides independent reviews, ratings, and parent recommendations on age appropriateness. Where available, we have included those ratings below.

These ratings grade the maturity of the content within the games but do not determine whether the game is kid-friendly and supports child accounts. Each game has a minimum supported age limit, and parents or legal guardians must provide consent for games that permit child participation.
