At Niantic, we are constantly working to ensure players have a safe and enjoyable experience across our games and apps. To help keep you safe, we build tools so you can control what you see and who you interact with. Our tips below can help you keep your account safe.
Choose a Strong Password
- A strong password is key to protecting your account. Choose a long password with a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters and special characters including numbers and symbols.
- Use a password that you don’t use for anything else.
- Check out a password manager such as Apple’s iCloud Keychain or Google Password Manager, which can help generate strong passwords and make logging in simple.
Enable Two Factor Authentication (2FA)
- Two Factor Authentication is the most secure way to protect your account. You can use external authenticator apps such as Duo Mobile, Google Authenticator, and Authy on your mobile device in order to authenticate your account.
Link an Additional Login Provider to Your Account
- Linking a backup login provider, such as Google, Facebook, or Apple, will enable you to login in the event that your single login provider is experiencing an interruption in service or if you created an account using a non-permanent email address that you may lose access to in the future.
Your privacy and safety settings can help you manage who can contact you and what people can see about you.
Niantic Profile Settings
- Your Niantic Profile connects all of your Niantic games and apps in one place, where you can see and manage your friends list, profile information, and other account settings. You can view and edit your Niantic ID from your Niantic Profile in Campfire or on the web portal at my.nianticlabs.com.
- You can control what others see on your Niantic Profile by adjusting your “Visibility Settings.” Click your “Edit Profile” button from the main profile screen, then tap the visibility dropdown button from the game profile whose visibility settings you want to manage. From there you can select “Everyone,” “Friends,” or “Only Me” as your visibility settings. Learn more.
- Avoid using your real name or any other personal information when picking your username. If you accidentally choose a username that reveals personal information, contact support and we’ll help change it.
- Keep in mind that if you add a friend in one game, you’ll automatically become friends with them in other games you both play. When you remove a friend in one game, you will remove them from other games as well.
Campfire Messaging Settings
- You may only want certain people to contact you via Direct Message. By default, people you’re not friends with cannot send you a Direct Message, however they can send you a Message Request. Message Requests must be approved by the recipient.
- You can disable Message Requests by going to your profile, tapping the settings icon on the top right, and select “Message Requests” to disable incoming message requests.
- Within Direct and Group Messages, you can tap on the “i” icon on the top right to view profiles, mute or block users, report users, and close the conversation.
Removing Friends
- Remember that removing friends in one game will also remove them as a friend in other Niantic games you both play.
- When you join Campfire you automatically become friends with all friends from the games you play that are integrated with Campfire. Take a look at your friends list to check that you are really friends. To remove someone from your Friends List, visit their profile and click on the three dots on the top right of the screen to open the menu and see the option.
- In Pokemon Go you can remove someone from your Friends List by navigating to your Trainer Profile, tap the “Friends” Tab at the top of the screen to open you “Friend List,” tap on the friend you wish to remove, and at the bottom of their profile, tap the “Remove Friend” button.
- In Peridot, if you no longer wish to be friends with someone, go to your Backpack and select your “Journal.” Tap on the “Friends” tab and select the friend you wish to remove. Scroll down to the bottom of their profile and select “Remove Friend.”
- In Pikmin Bloom, you can remove someone from your Friends List by going to your Home screen, and scrolling down to tap “Friends,” which is located under “Profile.” Tap next to the name of the friend you wish to delete and select “Delete Friend.”
- In Ingress, to remove someone from your “Friends” list, visit their profile and click on the 3 dots on the top right. You will see the option to “Remove Friend.”
- In Monster Hunter Now, you can remove someone as a friend by navigating to the main menu, and tapping the “Hunter” icon, and then tapping “Friends.” Scroll to the name of the friend you wish to delete, tap “…” and select “Delete Friend.”
How Blocking works
- Blocking another user prevents them from being able to add you as a friend or send you a direct message.
How to Block a user
- In Campfire, you can block someone by going to their profile, tapping on the 3 dots on the right side of the screen and select “Block.”
- In Ingress you can block someone by opening Comm in your Scanner, tap and hold the Agent’s codename you want to block, and select Block Agent in COMM > OK.
