Reporting

If you come across content or behavior that you believe violates Niantic’s Terms of Service or Player Guidelines, please report it to us. Your reports are important in creating a safe and enjoyable experience across Niantic’s games and apps and we work to review reports as soon as possible. When you submit a report, your identity is kept anonymous and none of your information is shared with other players.

What Happens After I Submit a Report?

After you submit a report, you will receive a message confirming that we’ve received it. Using automated tooling and expert review, we review reports and determine whether there has been a violation of our policies. We may not respond to your report directly, but we’ll use your report to improve the Niantic experience. You will receive a follow up from us if we need more information from you.

Enforcement
How We Investigate Potential Violations When we receive a report, our internal teams use a combination of automated tooling and human review to determine whether a violation of our policies has occurred. We gather information about context, intent, and the immediacy and severity of harm. When we become aware of content, behavior, or actors that are in violation of our guidelines, we ensure a proportionate response to the penalties for breaking our rules including warning, suspension, and account removal.
Enforcement Actions

When we confirm that there has been a violation of our policies, we take action to mitigate the harm. For most violations, we use progressive enforcement ladders: warning, suspension, and account removal. This is designed to discourage harmful behavior and educate players on our policies. Suspensions and account removals are a last resort and only for the most egregious harms or repeated violations.

Warning

You’ll see a warning message within the game or app informing you of the detected violation. The warning will last for approximately 7 days and after this period your gameplay experience will be fully restored.

Suspension

If your account is suspended you will temporarily lose access to your account for up to 30 days. After that period your account will be restored, provided there are no additional violations.

Account Removal

For the most serious offenses, or should you continue to violate policies after being issued a warning and suspension, we may permanently ban your account.

Appeals

If you believe you did not violate Niantic’s policies, or that unwarranted action was taken on your account, you can submit an appeal.

To submit an appeal, complete this form and select “Appeal” from the dropdown menu. Once your appeal has been reviewed we will notify you of the status of your appeal and account.
