Over the past five years, Niantic’s Social Impact work has spanned an array of areas, including: game development, player engagement, and real life events and impact. This year, we’ve done a deep dive into our work and its impact, assessing how we can use our technology and passion for real world connections to have a positive impact.
Whether it was doubling down on impactful, meaningful partnerships, showing up during humanitarian crises, or kicking off new public space initiatives, we witnessed the good that can come from thoughtful initiatives. During our Sustainability Campaign, we were blown away by the amazing community drive to plant more than 300,000 trees in biodiverse places all over the world.
In aggregate, Players have walked more than 7.2B kilometers in 2022, exploring the avenues of public space and community building, up 4% from 2021.
We look forward to continuing our work in 2023, especially on ways in which we can use our technology to thoughtfully engage our communities.
