Niantic Kids is a login method for Niantic products designed to obtain parental consent and keep children’s personal information secure when they access our games. This product is ESRB Privacy Certified and certified by the kidSAFE Seal Program. Children under 13* must use a Niantic Kids account. If we identify children using an adult account, we will disable the account upon being made aware of it.
As a parent or legal guardian, you can register with Niantic Kids to manage your child’s privacy via the parent portal. The portal will give parents the tools to review and approve permissions for their children’s accounts, including:
- Access to device GPS and location
- Friends & social related features (like sending & receiving in-game gifts)
- Sponsored content and advertisements
- Shared AR Experiences
- Pokemon Go Party Play permissions
Parents or legal guardians will have options to control what personal information Niantic collects from their child, and they will be informed of any new requests to review and approve them.
When a user first opens one of our apps appropriate for kids, they are asked to provide their birthday. If they are under the age of 13*, we disable non-child-friendly login options and instead display the Niantic Kids login method. Tap on the Niantic Kids option to create a child account. Children will need to provide their parent’s or legal guardian’s email address so that we can get their permission before they can play the game.

Pokemon GO also supports another kid friendly login method called the Pokémon Trainer Club, an offering from The Pokemon Company which allows parents to register their child’s account and keep their child’s personal information secure. Visit the Pokémon Parent Guide for additional information on their services.
* This age varies by country or region. In most places, the age of digital consent is 13 years old. Please see our Privacy Policy for more details.
This checklist will provide important instructions on setting up your and your child’s account using the Niantic Kids login provider:
- Create a new account for your child using Niantic Kids, upon launching the app. Provide your child’s accurate birth date to ensure all protective measures are in place on their account.
- As a parent or legal guardian, you’ll be required to provide certain personal information about yourself, such as your credit card details or the last four digits of your social security number, for verification purposes, as required by law. Find out more about these verification methods here.
- Once verified, you’d be able to create an account for your child as well as a parent account for yourself to control their in-game experience. This e-verification is carried out by third party providers; learn more about how your information is handled here.
- After you’ve set up the child’s account and entered your information, visit the Niantic Kids Parent Portal, and sign-in to your newly created account.
- Approve permissions required to play, and enable optional game features according to your preferences.
- Work with your child to understand our Player Guidelines. These guidelines have been set to help ensure you, your child, and others have fun while playing our games and reflect the same rules of courtesy that exist in the offline real world.
- Pick a suitable nickname for your child’s account. Remember that nicknames are visible to other users when interacting with certain game elements, such as Pokémon Gyms or Pikim Bloom Weekly Challenges, so to ensure your safety and privacy, avoid using your child’s or your real name or any other personal information that could reveal your identity.
- Set some ground rules together with your child – avoid sharing personal information with other users even if they know them in person, be respectful and aware when they are playing, most importantly, if any other user’s actions make them uncomfortable, to remove themselves from that situation and talk to you about it.
- You can always report safety issues or other violations of our Player Guidelines via our in-app support. Navigate to your settings and tap “Get Support” and one of our support agents will assist you further.
- Check the device’s in-app purchase settings. These settings can vary depending on the type of device you have and we recommend referring to the Google Play Store Parental Control or the Apple Parent Control guides for more information.
- Android and iOS devices also allow you to limit how much time your child spends playing games, by setting screen time limits for categories of apps or individual apps themselves. For more information, we suggest referring to the respective articles for Android and iOS devices.
Once done, you are all set to go out and play!
