Your Child’s Privacy

At Niantic, our belief is that the combination of maps and gaming can make the world even more magical and enticing for people (kids included!). For games that permit child participation, we use the Niantic Kids Parent Portal to allow verified parents and legal guardians to manage their children’s experiences across Niantic games and make sure personal information remains secure.

Data Collection

Niantic collects information in order to operate the game and to optimize and improve our products and services. For children under the age of 13*, we ask for the parent or guardian’s consent before we collect any child’s personal data (see Niantic Kids section). In particular, since Niantic games are location-based and their core feature is to provide a gameplay experience tied to the player’s real world location, we obtain your approval before we collect and use your child’s device location information. We never sell any user information, whether child or adult.

Please read our Privacy Policy and our Privacy Policy Overview for Children for more specific information on what personal data Niantic collects and uses when your child uses Niantic’s games.

Information Shared with other Players

When you take certain actions in our games, your username may be visible publicly for other players to see. Avoid using your child’s real name or any other personal information when picking their username. If you accidentally choose a username that reveals personal information, contact support and we’ll help change it. To the extent you allow your child to make Friends in our game by enabling the “Friends and related features” permission for your child’s account, Friends may see additional information about your child. Through the Niantic Kids platform, when your child makes new friends, you will receive a digest email listing the new friendships your child has made that day.

Some of our games support in-game chat or have online forums, but these features are unavailable for child accounts. In other words, your child and their Friends are not currently able to communicate with each other within Niantic games or on our online forums.
